Student Day of Poetry: Lowell has ended
Our Statewide Student Day of Poetry has been broke up into five regional events for 2015. You are now perusing the LOWELL event!

On Thursday, December 10, Mass Poetry’s Student Day of Poetry is taking over UMass Lowell! SDOP features a morning poetry sampler, writing-generative workshops, performances, readings, and a student open mic. We’ve got something for everyone, from the student who isn’t even sure they like poetry to the senior leading the after-school poetry club.

In Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Books, Mowgli is accepted into a wolf pack as a child. When he grows into a teenager, he is rejected by the wolves and returns to the village. He is of the jungle, but he is not of the jungle. He is from the village, but he is not from the village. “These two things fight together in me as the snakes fight in the spring.” Many tales in poetry and literature speak of this struggle of boundaries, when our identities do not fit into one category. Through Kipling’s poetry and our own written expression, we will speak of our own identities as they defy the borders that cannot contain us.
