Our Statewide Student Day of Poetry has been broke up into five regional events for 2015. You are now perusing the LOWELL event!

On Thursday, December 10, Mass Poetry’s Student Day of Poetry is taking over UMass Lowell! SDOP features a morning poetry sampler, writing-generative workshops, performances, readings, and a student open mic. We’ve got something for everyone, from the student who isn’t even sure they like poetry to the senior leading the after-school poetry club.

Dude, Where's My Poem? Poetry of Place

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Canada. Texas. Disneyland. It is interesting to think how the places we've lived in, visited, or just driven through influence our lives in big and small ways. Setting is often a big component in poetry; it can set up a story you're telling, show you a part of yourself you'd never known before, or the whole poem can be a reaction to that setting. I like to think of setting as a fluid term that not only describes environmental factors, such as city, or landscape, but also includes people, language, regional customs, etc. Poetry of place can help you understand what a setting has added to your person and what you contribute to it as well.
