Our Statewide Student Day of Poetry has been broke up into five regional events for 2015. You are now perusing the LOWELL event!

On Thursday, December 10, Mass Poetry’s Student Day of Poetry is taking over UMass Lowell! SDOP features a morning poetry sampler, writing-generative workshops, performances, readings, and a student open mic. We’ve got something for everyone, from the student who isn’t even sure they like poetry to the senior leading the after-school poetry club.

The Great Emptying

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

In this creative and supportive generative workshop, we’ll focus on
what I call “The Great Emptying.” We’ll essentially practice the art
of writing The Catalogue Poem, The List, The Pillow Book. Here, we’ll
focus on the detailed list of images, phrases, ideas, objects, and
memories in our lives that somehow seem connected or gain energy by
being listed together. We’ll each generate lists of separate images,
strong details, and work to connect them to an overall theme. Inspired
from the original “Pillow Book” by Sei Shonagon (written circa 1000),
this is a place to let your voice pour out on the page. Let this be
the moment you open those notebooks and see what's essential, what’s linked, and what's vibrating as one.
